Your Document Checklist for a Partner Visa Application

Whether you are applying for a permanent partner visa subclass 100 or the temporary visa subclass 801, correct documentation is essential for your application. While applying for any type of visa can be complex, applying for a partner visa, subclass 801 or 100 can be especially challenging as you should provide as much documentation and information as you can when you lodge your application. It is important that you provide certified copies of your original documents. If your documentation is not in English, it must be accompanied with an accredited English translation. Failing to provide the correct documentation could delay your application or result in you being declined, so here is a document checklist to assist you.

document-requiredIdentification Documentation:

As with any application, when applying for a permanent partner visa subclass 100 or partner visa subclass 801, you need to verify your identity. This can be accomplished with certified copies of biography pages of your current passport, certified copy of a birth certificate showing both your parents’ names or a national identity card. If your name has changed you will also need to provide evidence of your name change.

Your Relationship Documentation:

You will also need to provide documentation to support your relationship. This includes certified copies of marriage certificates, divorce paperwork or death certificates.

Character and Health Documentation:

If you are required, you must complete your health examination before you lodge your visa application. You will need to include your HAP ID or health identifier when you complete your application form.

You will also need to provide either a Medicare card, evidence of health insurance, a signed health insurance provider letter, or evidence of adequate cover under a reciprocal health care agreement.

You will also need to provide evidence of an application for an Australian Federal Police National Check if you have spent a minimum of twelve months in Australia. You will also need to provide a police certificate from any country where you have spent more than twelve months in the last ten years. If you have served in any armed forces, you will need to provide a copy of military discharge papers or service records.

Sponsor Evidence:

You will also need to provide documentation to support the claim that your sponsor is an Australian citizen or permanent resident. This can include birth certificates, passports or citizen certificates. Evidence of residence can include ownership or rental paperwork for an Australian property or evidence of utility accounts.

Evidence of a Continuing Genuine Relationship:

Your application should also include documentation to support the claim that your relationship is genuine and continuing. This can include statutory declarations or written statements. These will need to be signed and dated. Any statutory declarations will need to be witnessed by two signatories.

You will need to provide details about the history of your relationship including how, where and when you met, when you decided to start a relationship, your domestic arrangements, future plans and any periods of separation.

There should also be financial evidence of your continuing relationship. For example, evidence of any joint ownership of major assets or liabilities, such as real estate or loans. You should also provide evidence of a joint bank account which has been in effect for a reasonable amount of time, evidence of shared household expenses and bills and evidence of any legal commitments undertaken as a couple.
